What Are Coilovers?

Coilovers combine an adjustable spring and damper in one unit, letting you set both ride height and, on better sets, damping. They're the go-to upgrade for anyone serious about handling rather than just stance.

How it works

A coilover threads the spring perch up and down the damper body so you can dial in ride height, and adjustable damping controls how quickly the suspension compresses and rebounds. That means you can lower the car and keep body control, instead of lowering springs on standard dampers that were never valved for the shorter travel. Two-way sets separate bump and rebound for track tuning.

What to actually expect

Good coilovers transform how a car turns in and holds a line; cheap ones can be crashy and wear fast. Set ride height sensibly (slammed is slow and hard on components) and get a corner-balance and alignment afterwards. This is one of the highest-impact upgrades on almost any performance car.

Does it fit your car?

Coilovers are platform-specific and interact with your car's geometry. Check the fit and plan for an alignment once they're on.

Is it legal?
